Friable Asbestos Landfill

Friable Asbestos Landfill

Friable Asbestos means any material containing asbestos, that when dry, can be crumbled, pulverized or reduced to powder by hand pressure. In the early 1900s asbestos was discovered to have negative side effects, which has continued to result in them being used less and less in construction. Due to their toxicity and flammability, many landfill sites do not allow asbestos dumping.
Friable asbestos refers to a special type of asbestos material that contains more than one percent asbestos by weight or area, depending on whether it is bulk or sheet material.
Asbestos products include vinyl floor tiles, roofing tars, siding, shingles, drywall, and joint compound mixture.
