Special Waste is defined by the Solid Waste Association of North America(SWANA) as any waste material which, because of its physical characteristics, process, chemical/biological makeup requires either special handling procedures poses an unusual threat to human health or the environment.
The following is a partial list of non-hazardous, special waste streams that may be accepted if permitted in Sub Title D facilities:
  • Industrial process Wastes, including auto shredder fluff
  • Industrial and municipal sludge
  • Contaminated Soil/Media
  • Off-Specification product/agricultural Waste
  • Asbestos-Friable and Non-Friable
  • Liquid Waste for Solidification
  • Other Non-Hazardous Wastes Deemed appropriate for the individual landfills
